I have done about as much as I can do from my computer and with the available funds. Now it is up to descendants to clean up the loose ends or make donations that will allow me to do so. This post is intended as a guide to areas of further research.
There are still a few people I have come across in my research on the Marden family that need to be explored further in hopes of finding more clues about Edward.
Folks to Explore
- Unnamed wife (c1755-1765 - c1810-1818) - d. probably in Concord (Lisbon) or Lyman
- Charlotte (c1780 - bet Jul-1830 & May-1831) - connections to Charles K. White, maiden name, possible will & probate records
- Chloe Barnes Marden (c1787 NH - aft 1857) - prior marriages, date & place of death, wills & probate, land records before her marriage to Marden
- Benjamin Morris of Concord/Lisbon (an adult in 1790)
- Nathan Hodges of Lyman (an adult in 1803)
- Charles K. White, trader of Concord/Lisbon (an adult in 1818) - connection to Charlotte
- John Young of Lyman (an adult in 1831)
- Phineas Ash of Lyman & Lisbon (an adult in 1821) - he knew Edward as early as 1813
- The family of Eber (b.c1806 NH) & Sarah (b.c1802 NH) Eastman of Lyman, NH in 1850 - perhaps relatives of Chloe Barnes Marden
These are the places that need to be investigated for additional pieces of the puzzle.
Historical Documents to Search for in
- Maidstone & Lunnenburg, VT - any surviving records for the period 1770 to 1776
- Guildhall & Northumberland, NH - any surviving records for the period 1770 to 1776
- Landaff, NH - any surviving records for the year 1776
- Haverhill, NH - birth, death, & marriage records, land records, military documents discussing local affairs, town meeting records, journals, diaries, account books, etc. for the period of 1778 to 1785
- Concord (Lisbon), NH - birth, death, & marriage records, town meeting records, journals, diaries, account books, etc. for the period of 1784 to 1799
- Lyman, NH - birth, death, & marriage records, town meeting records, journals, diaries, account books, etc. for the period of 1790 to 1858+
And finally, there are some miscellaneous items to consider.
Miscellaneous Items
- Discuss Edward’s land transactions with someone more knowledgeable in these matters
- Locate the bond posted by Phineas Ash of Lyman on 18-Feb-1833
- View the Guy S. Rix “Manuscript History of Lisbon, NH” located at the New Hampshire Historical Society. This manuscript may have bits and pieces of the puzzle. It is mentioned in Fitt’s “Marden Genealogy”.
